Course aims

This 1-day Masterclass will focus on the issues surrounding prevention and repair of parastomal hernias. Updates on recent evidence and randomised controlled trials will be provided, and delegates will be able to compare and contrast a variety of surgical techniques. Interactive discussions on choice of mesh and complex abdominal wall reconstruction will be combined with the stoma therapist and patient’s perspective of parastomal hernia.

  • Parallel sessions for surgeons and AHPs will include:
    • Surgical options for repair (open and laparoscopic repair options, what is the ideal mesh?)
    • Complex situations (intra-abdominal wall prolapse, fistulating parastomal hernia etc)
    • Where should a stoma be sited?
    • Appliances for hernia
    • Delivery of a specialist stoma service
