Overview

A one-day hands-on practical trauma skills course. Features:

  • Expert faculty of military and civilian trauma surgeons
  • Small group hands-on practice using fresh cadaveric animal and human tissue
  • State-of-the-art wet lab facility
  • Aimed at CT2 – ST8 trainees in general or vascular surgery

Learning objectives-knowledge:

  • Damage control resuscitation & surgery
  • Role of the Trauma Team
  • Management of the critically ill trauma patient
  • Blunt & penetrating thoracic, abdominal & junctional zone trauma

Learning objectives-practical skills

  • Thoracotomy & sternotomy
  • Repair of cardiac injuries
  • Hilar control & pulmonary injuries
  • Trauma laparotomy & aortic control
  • Visceral rotation
  • Solid organ injury
  • Packing & temporary closure
