Information for Core Trainees

Congratulations on your appointment as a Core Trainee. As part of your responsibilities in accepting a position on the Core Surgical Rotation you must:

  • Maintain an up-to-date email account and personal details, all of which must be registered with Susan House (Specialty Manager at Severn Deanery). Email Susan House or telephone 01454 252 677.
  • Register with the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Project (ISCP). Please register before the start of your placement in August.

 To register:

  • Go to the ISCP website and click on the green button “New to ISCP, register here”.
  • Fill in the required fields on Name, Date of Birth, GMC number and email address and click save. ISCP will then send you a randomly generated 8 character password (which you can change to something more memorable on the profile drop-down menu once you have signed in). If you do not receive an email from ISCP within 24 hours, please contact the ISCP helpdesk on 020 7869 6299.
  • When you receive your password, sign in and complete the various sections when requested. These include a section on “user type” (click trainee), a section concerned with your level (ST1 or ST2), specialty (core or your specialty), deanery and a section concerned with details on your placements. Insert your details for both of the six month placements, including dates for starting and completion.
  • You must also complete the Health and Probity statement and provide details on your Programme Director.

 You should also:

  • Develop a Learning Agreement in conjunction with your Assigned Educational Supervisor at the start of each 6 month attachment (preferably in the first 2 weeks).
  • Ensure that you complete an interim and final review during each six month placement. These must be signed off by your Assigned Educational Supervisor.
  • Complete promptly all training and assessment documentation required of you by your Assigned Educational Supervisor, Programme Director or Postgraduate Dean. Further information on assessment framework can be found on the ISCP website.
  • Attend the Severn School of Surgery induction evenings for Core Trainees. The School induction will provide important information on your training programme, key contacts and ISCP.
  • Participate fully in the clinical and educational programmes developed for you
  • Participate fully in the Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) process. Further details, including dates, will be listed on the School website.
