CT Training Programme 2011/12
CT Courses and Skills Programme 2011-12
The Core Trainee Surgical Training Programme 2011/12 aims to provide the best of its kind in the country. It is a compulsory programme delivered over the 2 years of core training. Please read the following information carefully and view the powerpoint presentation attached.
This programme will deliver teaching and training structured in the following way;
- Anatomy Teaching
- Physiology Teaching
- Core Training Knowledge Days
- Surgical Skills Training
- Human Factors Training
In addition there will be some T&O skills days that will be compulsory for T&O core trainees and other courses available that will not be compulsory this year
Participants: Please read the instructions and visit the webpage tabs for specific teaching/training elements of the course to understand what you need to attend.
Availability: Training and teaching days have finite numbers of spaces available. You are advised to register well in advance and to organize you attendance in collaboration with your core trainees in your speciality in your hospital.
Registration: On-line at the Severn School of Surgery website calendar.
Study leave: Please follow the advice on this website concerning core trainee study leave. You must follow your hospital’s study leave process to ensure that your Trust is aware that you will be away from work on the specific training/teaching days. As a courtesy you should let your colleagues, team and consultants know of your leave. You must make appropriate arrangements to swap on-call/on-take commitments in order to attend any teaching/training sessions. This is your responsibility and not that of the School of Surgery.
Travel: No car-parking arrangements are available at the training venues. Trainees are advised to plan their travel and if coming by car are advised to offer a lift to colleagues. Good bus and train links are available in the Severn region.
Attendance outcomes: A record of attendance will be kept by the Deanery for all teaching/training days. Attendance details are provided to your Programme Directors and will be assessed at the yearly ARCPs. Certificates will be provided for each teaching/training session to trainees, who attend, for their portfolio.
Trainee feedback: Trainees will be asked to provide anonymised feedback on each module. This is important for the School of Surgery to ensure that the standards of delivery and content of the teaching is maximized for Severn School of Surgery core trainees in the future.
Non-attendance: Failure to attend a module requires a trainee to complete an explanation form (Non-Attendance Form) and is returnable to Chad Elliott at the School of Surgery.
Late attendance/Early departure: Late arrival for any of the training/teaching days will NOT be tolerated. You will be turned away from attending. Early departure from any of the training/teaching days will be counted as a non-attendance and this information will be passed on to your Programme Director.
Rob Longman: Chair, Surgical Skills and Courses Committee
